Monitor and Vancouver Community College break new ground

An exciting new bus pass solution has been created by Monitor for Vancouver Community College.

Monitor, in conjunction with eCard ID Products Ltd, has recently created a bus pass solution for Vancouver Community College that allows its students to use their student ID card to access bus passes. The U-Pass is a universal transit pass program for students, offered in partnership by Vancouver Community College, the Student’s Union of Vancouver Community College (SUVCC), TransLink, and the Province of British Columbia. The three-zone pass allows students to use all TransLink bus, SkyTrain, Canada Line and SeaBus services throughout Metro Vancouver.

Using Monitor’s AL4000 Autoloader, the development team at Monitor have reconfigured the autoloader to allow students to swipe their student ID card at the terminal and in return a U-Pass is dispensed to the student. The students account is charged for each U-Pass card that is purchased.

“It’s an exciting challenge having to think outside the box for some requests, but the majority of the time we can come up with a solution to cater for their needs” says Kevin Senior, Business Development Manager.

There are many benefits of the U-Pass program which include low cost travel for students, a reduction of carbon emissions through fewer cars on the road, and it encourages students to use public transport regularly.

“The students are elated in how fast the machines are in dispensing and they don’t have to line up to get their passes. Because of the success we have had using these dispensers, our model is now touted to be the leader among post-secondary institutions in BC who have to roll out U-Pass” says Ben Guanzon from Vancouver Community College
