Let’s dive in!

We’re excited to share a range of updates and stories from across the Monitor community. This edition includes:

We also shine a spotlight on how Kingston Libraries are using MonitorBM to deliver a seamless self-service solution.

And finally, get to know one of our dedicated support team who works tirelessly behind the scenes to deploy and maintain our customers in New Zealand, USA and the UK.

Let’s dive in!

We’re proud to share that MonitorBM has achieved ISO 27001 Certification — the internationally recognised standard for Information Security Management Systems (ISMS).

This certification follows two comprehensive audits of our processes and confirms that MonitorBM has established and maintains a system that meets global best practices for managing and protecting information. It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to systematically safeguarding sensitive data and continually improving our information security practices.

Achieving ISO 27001 reinforces MonitorBM’s dedication to providing our customers with secure, reliable solutions that meet the highest standards of information protection and compliance.

The MonitorBM MU2 is getting even better! We’ve added features to make after-hours access, on-site transactions, and facility management more flexible, secure, and convenient for both staff and patrons.

Portable & Battery-Powered
Need to capture patrons staying after hours without them leaving the building? Our new portable MU2 with optional battery pack lets you do just that — perfect for flexible placement anywhere in your facility.

Special Card for Easy Closedown
No more logging into the software to power off the device. A Special Card now handles closedowns automatically, records the transaction in Supervisor Net, and updates the audit trail. Access to Special Cards is controlled for added security.

QR Code for Online Purchase or Top-Up
Want to offer self-service inductions for after-hours library access? If a patron scans their library card at the terminal but hasn’t yet completed the induction, the terminal will display a QR code inviting them to register for the service. Patrons simply scan the QR code to be directed to Monitor Online, where they can review the library’s terms and conditions and watch any induction videos provided. Once completed, they can scan again to enter the library.

Quick, simple, unattended, and completely paperless!

Single Item Purchases and Registrations at the MU Terminal

Need to make a one-off purchase or register for an event or activity? Users can now complete single-item purchases and track registrations directly at the MU Terminal using their Supervisor Net account. Just tap or swipe to pay, and if funds are low, top up instantly via the on-screen QR code.

Smarter Facility Reservations
The MU2 can sit outside a meeting room or facility to control entry to the facility via a keyless entry system which authenticates users against the library management system, Active Directory or Azure/EntraID. It can enforce MFA codes delivered via SMS to ensure patron validity. With support for up to eight relays, the first user can unlock the door, turn on lights, raise blinds, and start services — and now subsequent users can also unlock as they arrive. Perfect for shared spaces.

While we’ve recently added some exciting new features, it’s important to remember that the MU2 is a highly versatile solution.

Depending on your site’s setup, the unit can be used for:

  • Terminal access: Control doors or turnstiles with ease.
  • Print release station: Quickly and securely release print jobs.
  • Monitor account balance checker: Let users check their account balance on the spot.
  • Purchases: Buy items or services using your Monitor account.
  • Reservation management: Manage room bookings, doors, and services access.
  • Attendance tracking: Record and monitor attendance seamlessly.
  • Meal ID system: Streamline meal purchases and access.

With all these capabilities, the MU2 is designed to simplify operations, enhance convenience, and keep your facilities running smoothly.
